After Sun Spray

After Sun Spray is great for those times you forget to put sunscreen on and get a sunburn. It’s soothing, moisturizing and takes the sting out.

I’ve already done it. I worked in the garden for a couple hours and forgot to put on sunscreen. I am part Swedish. This means I burn. Burn easily. Burn often. I once got second degree burns from the sun. I am not proud of this. You would think I would learn. But somehow, I still forget to put sunscreen on.

Aloe vera gel has been my friend for many years. Someone once told me to put it in the fridge.  It was genius.  Cold aloe vera gel on hot red skin feels amazing. But now I am using essential oils. So I made my own After Sun Spray using aloe vera gel and essential oils.

It has not been over a week since I got burned and I barely peeled.  I sprayed it on whenever I thought of it or whenever my sunburn hurt.  It was soothing and moisturizing.  And far less peeling!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 Tbsp aloe vera gel, I bought the organic kind
  • 1 Tbsp vitamin E oil
  • 10 drops of lavender, peppermint, and copaiba each

Instructions

  1. Pour all ingredients into a 4 oz spray bottle. A funnel helps with this.
  2. Shake the bottle vigorously until combined.
  3. Store in fridge for a refreshing cooling spray.
  4. Spray on as needed.

The oils I used are Lavender, Peppermint and Copaiba.  The lavender is good for the skin. The peppermint provides a cooling effect even after the spray warms up. The Copaiba helps take the sting out. It helps with the swelling that comes with a sunburn.

I prefer a glass spray bottle when I’m going to be applying essential oils to skin.  If I’m just spraying the air or bugs, plastic is fine.

And please, don’t follow my example.  Please wear sunscreen!

If you would like more information about essential oils, I would love to hear from you!
