The perfect combination of peppermint and chocolate comes together in this Christmasy Candy Cane Frozen Hot Chocolate Milkshake recipe!
If I had to pick just one flavor that was Christmas to me, it would be the peppermint flavor of candy canes. Perhaps because they are something that I only have once a year, they seem like a treat. Every year, I attempt to come up with some new recipe I can use candy canes in, and this year it’s candy cane frozen hot chocolate milkshakes! Yum!
Many years ago, I worked as a barista in a coffee shop. One of the drinks we served was frozen hot chocolate. I was trying to explain to my kids what this was recently. They assured me that it’s not possible for hot chocolate to be frozen. If it were frozen, it wouldn’t be hot.
I assured them that despite it not making sense, frozen hot chocolate does exist, and it’s even delicious! So then I had to show them what I was talking about.
We whipped up a batch of candy cane frozen hot chocolate milkshakes (they weren’t thrilled that I crushed their candy canes), and the kids loved them! They’ve asked me every day since if I would make them again.
Although when I worked at the coffee shop we had an expensive blender, you don’t need one for this recipe. I make it with our ancient Oster blender that Dan brought into our marriage. It used to be his grandma’s, and I keep saying that when it dies I’ll buy a Vitamix, but it’s looking like this blender might end up being passed down to our grandkids!
So regardless of what machine you have, you can make a delicious candy cane frozen hot chocolate milkshake at home!
This recipe makes one milkshake. Double, triple, or quadruple the recipe to make your desired number of drinks.
