Caprese Salad

Caprese Salad is a fresh delicious salad. With only 7 ingredients, it is very simple to make, but makes quite the statement.

Caprese Salad is one of my favorite summer salads.  It’s a great use of all the cherry or grape tomatoes and basil from the garden.  It’s light and fresh and has cheese! It’s also SO simple to make.

My favorite grocery store here in town makes it but uses parsley instead of basil.  I can tell you for sure that it is not good with parsley!

There are many versions of caprese salad.  You can use slices of tomatoes and slices of mozzarella.  I like having the little balls. But you can make it however you’d like.

Also some people put balsamic vinegar in it.  I like it equally with or without.  However, you should know that if you add balsamic vinegar, your mozzarella will not stay the brilliant white color, but is still very tasty.

Is Caprese Salad healthy?

Healthy is a relative word. What some people think is healthy isn’t healthy to others. In my opinion this is a healthy salad.

All real ingredients. Fresh tomatoes and basil are both very healthy. Tomatoes have been found to have benefits for your vascular system. They have been found to prevent cardiovascular disease.

Basil is a great source of vitamin K, manganese, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C. It’s also a good source of calcium, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids.

An ounce of mozzarella contains 18% of your daily intake of of calcium. Olive oil and balsamic vinegar also have a list of healthy benefits.
