Do you suffer from terribly dry skin in the winter like we do? Try these Coconut Oil In-Shower Lotion Bars and your skin will thank you.
Jamie, Lucy and I live in Idaho which has a very dry climate. I struggle with terribly dry skin in the winter. I have tried nearly everything under the sun. My favorite has been Oil of Olay Quench In Shower Lotion.
But like most products I like, it quickly becomes hard to find or the stores stop carrying it. I have found it on Amazon, but it is much more expensive than it was in the store. And it has chemicals in it that I’m trying to get away from.
So I set out to find something I could make myself. I tried several different things, but I found the simpler the better.
Coconut oil has been the best and easiest thing for me. You can use it as simple as digging it out of the jar with a spoon or you can make coconut oil bars.
You can also make the bars as simple as just coconut oil or you can add vitamin E and/or essential oils. And the best part is that it has no chemicals.
I have started making coconut oil bars with Young Living essential oils. Depending on what essential oil you use, you can fix skin issues while making your skin smoother and more hydrated.
I use lavender essential oil in my coconut oil bars. Lavender essential oil is great for supporting healthy skin. I also like to put Peace & Calming or Stress Away blends in my bars. They are great for calming you after a long day.
You can choose any essential oil that you like. There are so many great ones.

Materials
- 14 oz jar of coconut oil
- Essential oil
- Mold
- A sheet pan larger than the mold.
Instructions
- Place jar of coconut oil in a bowl or sink of warm water. (Coconut oil doesn't need to be very warm to melt.
- While coconut is melting, place the mold on a sheet pan to make moving it easy without spilling.
- After oil is melted, add about 30 drops of the essential oil of your choosing. Place lid back on and shake to combine.
- Pour oil into the mold. Be careful not to fill them completely full. Place the sheet pan with the mold on it in the refrigerator or freezer. I put mine in the garage in the winter.
- Once hardened, pop them out and store in a zip top bag in the bathroom.
Notes
My bathroom is rather cool so they stay solid. But if you live in a warmer climate or your bathroom tends to be warm, you can store them in the refrigerator.
Read below on how to use the bars.

To use the Coconut Oil In-Shower Lotion Bars:
Take one bar with you into the shower. Wash your body as you normally would. Then rub the bar on your body and/or face.
Then do a quick rinse to get excess oil off. If you use it on your face, you will want to use a wash cloth to wipe off the excess. I usually use the bar as the last thing I do before getting out. I like to keep as much oil on as possible.
You will notice your skin become smoother and more hydrated after a few days.
If you use it on your face, it will take about a week for your skin to get used to it. Your face will be a little more oily than normal at first. But once used to it, your face shouldn’t be any more oily than normal.
If I find a place that is persistently dry, I will follow up the coconut oil in-shower lotion bars with my out of shower lotion bars.
Hope you enjoy these!
