Creamy Poppyseed Dressing

Creamy Poppyseed Dressing is a slightly sweet dressing that goes great with salad and fruit. Make your own and ditch the preservatives of store bought dressing.

I am still on a mission to learn to make all my food myself. I don’t always do too well at this especially while moving. But we do try to eat at home 5 nights (if not more) a week. And I try to use all clean ingredients (no preservatives, no artificial sweeteners, etc).

But I still use salad dressings that are full of preservatives. I have two favorite dressings – poppyseed dressing & Vidalia onion dressing. The Vidalia onion dressing I use is all natural. So I’m going to not worry about it. But the poppyseed dressing isn’t and since I’m out of poppyseed dressing, I attempted to make it.

Is Poppyseed Dressing vegetarian?

Yes, poppyseed dressing is vegetarian. The dressing does not contain any meat. However, it does have mayonnaise which has eggs. So it is not vegan. You are welcome to leave the mayonnaise out. The dressing will still be delicious, but not creamy.

Is Poppyseed Dressing dairy free?

Yes, poppyseed dressing is dairy free. The mayonnaise is what makes it creamy and most mayonnaise is dairy free.

This recipe tastes so yummy! And no more spending crazy amounts of money on my favorite dressing. And a side note, I love having a microplane. It is so versatile. I use it for zesting, grating onions, grating Parmesan, and so much more.

  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/2 tbsp onion, grated
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 1/2 tbsp poppyseeds

Instructions

  1. In a 12 or 16 oz canning jar, mix all ingredients.
  2. Put the lid on and shake hard for about a minute. You want all the mayo to mix in.

Notes

If you don't like mayo, you can leave it out. It just won't be creamy.
