What are bacon-wrapped dates made of?

Some bacon-wrapped dates are stuffed with cheese, but this recipe stuffs them with a pecan.

The combination of sweet, salty, crunchy and chewy in these Pecan-stuffed Dates wrapped in Bacon is just perfect. We got the recipe in a roundabout way, but want to give attribution to Paula Dean for coming up with such a yummy idea.

Can I substitute walnuts for pecans?

You can definitely substitute walnuts if you don't like pecans, but I think the flavor profile of a pecan inside a date wrapped in bacon goes together better.  However, a walnut will still give it the crunch and a nutty flavor.

What is a good appetizer to bring to a party?

Bacon wrapped pecans stuffed with dates are one of the recipes that people always ask me to make. Even my friends who weren't sure if they'd like them have asked me later for the recipe-- they are that good!

The fact that they're so easy means I'm happy to make them for any dinner party!

I'll usually bake up multiple pans of them, and after draining the grease I put them in a 9x13 pan inside my insulated casserole dish carrier so they stay warm until the party. This makes transporting them simple.
