Red White and Blue Marshmallows are so festive and a great addition to any patriotic celebration. Along with being fun they are delicious.
I have had so much fun experimenting with marshmallows. These Red White and Blue Marshmallows took a couple tries to get them right. The first try was splitting one batch into 3 and dying 2 of them. The marshmallows set up too quickly for this to work.
So I was “forced” to make 3 batched. Really I’m not going to argue with more marshmallows. 3 batches worked the best. It gives you time to get it dyed and into the pan.
A couple things I learned from this experiment:
When you are smoothing out the top, don’t spray plastic wrap to press it down. The spray will make it difficult for the layers to adhere together. Do you your best to smooth it out and it’s ok if it’s not flat.
Add the dye before the 12 minutes is up. Add a little at a time until you get the color you are wanting.
One thing we have found with homemade marshmallows is that they don’t catch on fire. I’m not why that is, but I love it. You can get nice toasted marshmallows without them being charred.
