We have been having a great time preparing for Thanksgiving with our thankful jars. But I thought it would be fun to make a craft as well. My oldest daughter had made a pretty cute Thanksgiving placemat in preschool last year so I thought we could make some this year and put our own spin on it. I actually did this with my Sunday school class first, which several of my children are a part of and then made some more at home.
I made a printable with one of my favorite verse about giving thanks. This is the base for the placemat and the kids could write their name on it and what they are thankful for. I printed mine off on orange paper but you can use whatever color you want. Then we glued the printable to poster board and decorated around them with fall colored construction paper cut into different sized squares. I also thought leaf printing around them might be fun but didn’t want to try that during Sunday school and it didn’t work out so well for us at home. But if you know what’s your doing that might be a fun way for your kids to decorate their place mat.
{Click the picture or the Title link to print. It prints a full sheet of paper and the watermark doesn’t appear on the printable version.}
You’ll probably want to laminate the placemat or cover with clear contact paper, after you finish decorating it. I took the pictures before I did this step because I was afraid it would cause a glare.
Come back on Saturday for some more great Thanksgiving table ideas {Ones for adults too!} and tomorrow Jamie shares an incredibly cute turkey place holder that her kids made.
Have you done any fun crafts for Thanksgiving with your kids or just for you? If so, please leave me a comment and share!
