Veggie Stamp Valentines- Easy and fun way for little ones to make their own Valentine’s Day cards!
I don’t know if you ever made potato stamps as a kid, but I have vague memories of it. The other night when my kids were getting a bit antsy and Dan wasn’t due home from work for 2 more hours, I knew we needed to do some serious crafting or I’d have World War 3 on my hands. So I got out some veggies, craft paint, and construction paper while the kids got into their paint clothes, and we got started with Veggie Valentines.
I cut the potato into chunks small enough for the kids to hold on to (we have big potatoes here in Idaho). Then I “carved” shapes on the potatoes. I did this by tracing the shape with a pencil, and then cut away the potato surrounding the shape.
I’ve been seeing on Pinterest that if you cut off the end of a stalk of celery, it looks like a rose when you use it for paint stamping. This would probably be more true if I hadn’t just used a bunch of the celery to make Corn Chowder, but it was still fun for the kids. They loved the idea of using the veggies for stamping- it just seemed so silly to them! You can see the celery roses made in red paint.
Important note: If you want to make letters or words, make sure you cut them out backwards. I didn’t think of this until the kids started stamping backward “I {heart} U”s.

Thanks for visiting our blog, April, and for hosting!
These are adorable! You did a great job with the carving too! Featured you on Mom’s Library this week!
Thank you so much for the feature, Ashley! We had so much fun- in fact, our little homeschooling co-op is going to do these again next week!
This is such a great idea! My boys would love it! We’re stuck inside today, too, since it’s so cold, so I may just have to whip out the veggies… ๐ Thanks so much for sharing at Hit Me with Your Best Shot! Hope to see you back tonight!
~Abby =)
Thanks for stopping by, Abby! Being stuck inside with the kids can really be hard, but crafts do seem to help!
Thanks for linking up at the “Our Days” Homeschool link-up. Since this link-up is so much smaller (although probably my favorite) compared to the 3M, I’m going to start pinning all of the posts to my homeschool boards for other families to see. ๐
Thanks again. ๐
Awesome! We love being pinned! Thank you
Stamping would be fun! Thanks for sharing this idea! I am sharing our Valentine Crayon Rubbing cards this week at your Saturday Dishes link up!
Oh I used to love doing crayon rubbing- glad you linked up! And so glad your little guy had fun with that!
Being essentially artistically challenged, I use small cookie cutters shoved into the cut potato and cut out all the potato around them. You can get the small cutters in letters and numbers, transportation, animals, shapes, etc.
Cheryl, I LOVE your idea! I think I’ll actually add it into the post, because it’s such a great idea! Thanks!
so cute they looked like they had fun. witch one is mine?
Thanks, Ruth! They had a blast! I’ll have to ask Miss Magoo which one she was planning to give you ๐ But I figured we would wait until Valentine’s to give them out!
