While we still love this craft for Easter, it has also become a favorite for baby showers and kids for many occasions. This pom pom sheep garland is sure to be a hit no matter what you make it for. {This post contains affiliate links, if you order through a link we will receive a small commission. Thanks!}
For Easter this year Miss Magoo and I made pom pom sheep garland to decorate. It was fun and easy, and gave us a good way to talk about the many sheep references in the Bible.
Miss Magoo’s favorite sheep reference is the story of when the shepherd misses just one sheep, so he leaves the flock and goes and finds it, just as he cares for each of us individually. She also loves the story of Abraham’s faith, when God tells him to sacrifice Isaac. And although he must have been so afraid to do so, he was faithful. And while it wasn’t a sheep, but a ram that God sent along, it’s a great story of God’s provision when we trust in him.
I love that we are referred to as the sheep, and Jesus is our Good Shepherd. He also fulfills the role of the sacrificial lamb, saving us from all our sins. What incredible love he has for us!
So you can see that there are many biblical references to sheep, and I didn’t even touch on very many of them– there are so many more! So these pom pom sheep garland just seem to tie in perfectly with Easter and the Bible.
Supplies:
- Cardboard or cereal box
- Scissors
- Yarn in black and white
- Black or Brown craft pom poms
- Hot glue gun
Cut 4 circles a little bigger than you want your pom poms to end up. Mine are about 4 inches each.
Cut a smaller circle in the center of two of the circles. Make sure the circle is big enough for you to easily get your fingers into, since you’ll be pulling the yarn through it.
Cut two pieces of yarn about 6 feet long each.
Put both of the circles that have holes in them together. Press the ends of both pieces of yarn tight against the circle and start winding the yarn around the donut shaped cardboard.
Once you finish winding the yarn, use the other two cardboard circles to “sandwich” the pom pom. While holding the pom pom tight between the cardboard sandwich, use scissors to cut through the ends of the loops.
Cut two pieces of black yarn about 6 inches long and tie the pom pom tightly in between the cardboard circles.
Pull the pom pom out through the holes in the cardboard circles.
Hot glue a craft pom pom on for the sheep’s head. The black string will be the legs.
You can hot glue a loop of string to hang the sheep garland.
Use the sheep as a way to talk to your kids about the stories of sheep in the Bible. We talked about the story of the lost sheep, and that Jesus loves each of us so much that He searches us out.
