I am horrible about starting projects and then moving on to new projects halfway through. I know I can’t be alone in this, right? The problem is that sometimes when I finally get back to a project, I can’t find all of the supplies for it, or I no longer remember what the pattern was. This is why I implemented this simple and inexpensive craft project organization system.
Now when I start working on a project, I grab a plastic 6 quart storage container (the size of a standard shoebox) and put any pattern, supplies, fabric, and accessories into it. Just for the record, the price of these containers on Amazon is expensive– I’m simply linking to it so you can see what I’m talking about. These are carried by most dollar stores, or they typically go on sale for $1 each on a regular basis.
I’ve currently got a craft project organization started for quilt squares from scrap fabric. I’ve got another containing The Liberty Dress, a 4th of July dress pattern that I started 2 years ago (terrible, right? Hopefully Baby Girl will grow into it by the time I finish it!). Another container has a baby boot pattern that I’m working on creating and hope to share with you all soon. And finally, the last box has granny squares in it that I hope to someday turn into a granny square sampler quilt (but sheesh, it takes a lot of granny squares to make a quilt!).
I use washi tape and a permanent marker to label the containers, which works really well. The washi tape pulls off easily for when I {finally} finish the project and I’m ready to put a new project in its place.
I love this new system– it has saved me so much time in trying to figure out what I was doing, where my supplies are, and just in giving me the ability to pick back up right where I left off. I also like that the containers are clear so I can see into them, and that they stack easily to fit on a shelf.
How do you organize your craft projects? I’d love to hear what works best for you!

It's truly so hard to keep a craft area clean! But this has helped immensely!
