I love minions. In general, I think Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 are very cute and fun movies! And while the little girls, especially the youngest are adorable, the minions are my absolute favorite characters. Not only are they funny but there are adorable. Not so much when they turn purple in Despicable Me 2 and scream all the time. And not so much when my oldest son reenacts said screaming.
But the yellow minions are my favorite. I send minions stickers on Facebook chat all the time, have a minion board on Pinterest, and even wanted my husband to win me a rather large minion at the fair (don’t worry my practical side won and we did not waste our money). My kids really love the minions too!
About a week ago, I saved an empty oatmeal canister, thinking it would make a good project for the kids but not really sure what I should do with it. Two days later inspiration hit! A Minion Cookie Jar! Minions! Cookies! Minions and Cookies, Yes! Two of our favorite things together.
Minion Cookie Jar
What you need:
- An empty oatmeal canister
- 2 Sheets Yellow, 1 Sheet Blue, 1 Sheet Black, and 1 Sheet White Construction Paper
- Black Permanent Marker
- Tape
- Glue
How To:
We covered the canister with the yellow construction paper and secured with tape. We then cut the overalls out of the blue. We went around the whole container with a small strip and then added the square to the front. We glued a lot of the top stuff on but some we had to re-secure with tape.
The goggles were made with the black and white construction paper and attached with glue. We drew the eyes, mouth, and details on the overalls on.
My kids and I had a lot of fun making this. It’s definitely a craft for older children but my preschooler did help out soon. She made sure to get one of the cookies too! My 5 year old, enjoyed it the most! I’m thinking of covering the whole thing with contact paper to make it last longer.
What’s your favorite movie characters? And what have you been crafting lately with your kids?

Totally adorable. I have an oatmeal can sitting on my counter. Maybe we’ll get creative with it tomorrow! I have a ton of foam sticks and some construction paper. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you Sarah! It was fun to get creative with the kids! Hope you have fun with yours.
