Motorola Baby Monitor

Motorola Baby Monitor ReviewWhen Miss Magoo was a baby, we received a video monitor quite by accident (the wrong product was shipped to us, and the company didn't want us to return it).  I loved having a video monitor, but unfortunately an unsteady toddler tripped on the cord and broke it.  So when I was given the opportunity to review a Motorola MBP36S Video Baby Monitor, I jumped on it!

I have to tell a funny story about baby monitors.  When Miss Magoo was a little baby, she started testing the waters to see if she could get out of her crib.  So one night I was watching her on the video monitor, and saw her put her leg up, so I called out, "You stay in your crib!"  She looked all around in confusion, and then sat down in her crib.  It gave me some serious "eyes in the back of my head" kind of credibility!  She is still sure that I know if she's doing something wrong!

So back to what I think about the Motorola Baby Monitor- I love it!  Boy, in the 4+ years since our last monitor was made, improvements have been made like crazy.  The Motorola baby monitor is awesome!

Set up for the monitor was so simple.  I opened the package, inserted the battery in the LCD screen, screwed on the back, plugged in the camera, and we were good to go.  You can have this set up and be using it in a couple of minutes!

I love that the screen is small enough to be portable, but large enough to see well, at 3.5" diagonally.  On top of that, it's wireless (using Wireless technology 2.4 GHz FHSS) with a range of up to 590 feet, so it's perfect for me to take outside during nap time.

Let's face it, if you've got more than one kid, nap time can be a terrible time!  The older kids are noisy which keeps the baby awake.  And beyond that, sitting around inside and being quiet for all of nap time doesn't do good things to preschoolers.  So I love that I can put Baby Girl down for her nap, and the kids and I can go outside and play while still keeping an eye on her using the Motorola baby monitor.

The Motorola Baby Monitor is easy to use.  Using the monitor, you can pan the camera, tilt and zoom it, so you can see large portions of the room.  It has a flip-out stand to prop the screen up.  And if you have more than one room you'd like to keep an eye on (think playrooms), you can even buy an extra camera, but view both cameras from the same monitor-- in fact, you can have up to 4 cameras in use at once!

And I have to tell you, things have gotten crazy since we had our last monitor!  There's a room temp reading in the upper left-hand corner of the screen that tells you what the temperature is in your baby's room.  You can now have the monitor play lullabies for your baby! (How cool is that?) The Motorola baby monitor plays 5 different lullabies.  And it has crystal clear 2-way communication.  That's right, you can talk to your baby through the monitor!  Oh my goodness, I think this is so cool!  Think how much better my credibility would have been with Miss Magoo if I could not only see her actions remotely, but I could also talk to her in her room? It makes me laugh to think what she would have done!

So if you're in the market for an awesome baby monitor, the Motorola Video Baby Monitor is awesome!  I'm loving using it in Baby Girl's room, and I would love to buy another camera to keep an eye on the playroom as well- Little Man has a cousin who's the same age, and the two of them are constantly up to some sort of mischief!  Using the Motorola Baby Monitor will help me keep an eye on my baby's safety and well-being, while also keeping mischief under control in my older kids!

  1. I would not have made it without our baby monitor. My boys are now 5 and 3 and our bedrooms aren't close to the boys so if they were to call out I wouldn't hear them so I still use the baby monitor. Kinda sad, but I worry.

    1. I don't think that's sad at all. I only have one boy, but wow-- he can truly do some damage! He doesn't try to be destructive, he just loves to take things apart (engineer in the making, right?). He needs a monitor on all his activities! lol

  2. Picking out a baby monitor can be daunting!! Thanks for the review to help make the decision easier on some of us 🙂

    1. You're welcome, Jen! You're right, it's so hard to look at a package and decide if this is the best possible monitor, without actually trying it out!

  3. Wow that is so cool that you can talk to your baby. I want one of these for my 4 yr old who still doesn't like sleeping in her own bed.

    1. It would work great for your 4 year old, Stephanie! She could still hear your voice, but maybe you wouldn't have to get out of bed! (I hate having to get out of my nice warm bed during the night!)

  4. Love that you could have one napping, take this with you and keep an "eye" on the other one...that would have been great a couple of years ago at my house!

    1. Yes! It has made me feel so much more comfortable about taking the bigger kids outside when I can see that my baby is safe in her crib.

  5. Wow, baby monitors have certainly evolved. They didn't have them when my kids were little, but I did use one (sound only) with my granddaughter.

    1. I had a sound only monitor, too, which is definitely helpful, but doesn't give the peace of mind the Motorola video baby monitor gives!

  6. What an awesome monitor! My older sister has a 15 month old and her monitor is so tiny and the picture is so bad on it that I desperately want to get her a new one. I'll have to keep this in mind if her and her husband decide to have another one anytime soon!

    1. That's a bummer, Teresa. I was amazed how crisp and clear this picture is-- so easy to see what my baby is doing.

  7. Baby monitors have come such a long way since I had babies!! I am loving this idea, I could think of several other ways to use this besides just a baby monitor;)))

  8. What a cool monitor! I don't think they had them quite like that when my kids were little. But I would love to see what my puppy is up to sometimes and it would be awesome to tell him, "don't you get into the garbage!" when he is about to pull one of his stunts!

  9. Baby monitors are the greatest invention known to womankind! 🙂 I wish I had owned a video monitor when my babies were in the crib!

    1. They really are amazing! I loved having one before, but this Motorola monitor is cooler than I could have even imagined!
