Thanksgiving Placemats for Kids

We have been having a great time preparing for Thanksgiving with our thankful jars.  But I thought it would be fun to make a craft as well.  My oldest daughter had made a pretty cute Thanksgiving placemat in preschool last year so I thought we could make some this year and put our own spin on it. I actually did this with my Sunday school class first, which several of my children are a part of and then made some more at home.

I made a printable with one of my favorite verse about giving thanks.  This is the base for the placemat and the kids could write their name on it and what they are thankful for.  I printed mine off on orange paper but you can use whatever color you want.  Then we glued the printable to poster board and decorated around them with fall colored construction paper cut into different sized squares.  I also thought leaf printing around them might be fun but didn't want to try that during Sunday school and it didn't work out so well for us at home.  But if you know what's your doing that might be a fun way for your kids to decorate their place mat.

You'll probably want to laminate the placemat or cover with clear contact paper, after you finish decorating it.  I took the pictures before I did this step because I was afraid it would cause a glare.

  5. These are such adorable Thanksgiving placemats and such good practice for those important early literacy skills of writing and reading! I love the verse too.

    1. Yes, it does have a place to practice but not too much writing since I still have two that don't write yet. I like crafts the kids can do all or mostly on their own!

  6. Such a darling idea. I think this is what Auntie Kim/Grammy will be doing with the kids while Auntie Sharon/Mom finishes up in the kitchen. Thanks for sharing. <3 Kim

      1. The girls did a great job. The boys were too interested in being able to play together to play with me LOL. They had a fun day though.

        1. So glad the girls enjoyed it! I'm pretty sure my son would have had no interested if we did it after his cousins came down for Thanksgiving. Too busy. Thanks for letting me know how it went!

  7. How fun for the kids & lovely idea! Great to hear your covering with contact paper. Nice they can use them again.

  8. Super great idea! I bet your kids were very proud when they finished. My daughter is always so happy when she does something on her own:)

    1. My kids did have a lot of fun with this project. I like kid's crafts that they can do all on their own! More entertaining for them and less stressful on the momma!

  9. that is super cute! I love that its simple... but still so cute. It would be great to cover in contact paper and save for an other year :o) Pinned!! Emily

    1. We are covering ours with contact paper but I was waiting until I took all the pictures since I have trouble with contact paper sometimes! and I was also afraid it might cause a glare in the pictures. Thanks for pinning!
