One of my favorite winter treats is hot cocoa. I worked at a church camp as a teen, and they had the best homemade hot chocolate mix ever. I’ve tried many other mixes, and just never found one as delicious, so I was thrilled when I recently got my hands on the recipe.

In typical recipe fashion, this particular recipe didn’t make a whole lot of sense. Some things were measured in weights, some in volume (but using ounces), and some using the old measurements that containers used to come in. So, I’ve messed around with the recipe, trying to get it into an easier to make format, using current measurements.

While this mix does use Nestle Nesquick and dry coffee creamer, you can make your own, or buy them from the store, it’s completely up to you, and how homemade you want to make this. Pair Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix with Homemade Marshmallows If you want free printable gift tags to attach to your hot chocolate mix, feel free to use these! I printed them out on cardstock, and use jute or ribbon to attach them to the containers of hot chocolate mix. I bought cute containers from Dollar Tree and put homemade marshmallows in them to go along with the hot chocolate mix we gave away last year.

If you’ve never made homemade marshmallows, you’re going to be shocked at how easy they are, and how much tastier they are than store bought. Ingredients: 5 cups powdered milk; 20.1 oz Nesquick (5 cups if using homemade); 2 cups dry coffee creamer; 2 cups powdered sugar; 1 cup cocoa

Ingredients

5 cups powdered milk
20.1 oz Nesquick (5 cups if using homemade)
2 cups dry coffee creamer
2 cups powdered sugar
1 cup cocoa

Instructions

In a large container (I used a stock pot), combine all ingredients and stir very well.
Divide into 4 quart or 8 pint jars.
To use, mix 3 tablespoons of hot chocolate mix into an 8 ounce mug of hot water.
